Finance¶
A shipment is commercially closed only when what was billed to the customer, what was billed by vendors, and what the customer already advanced or was advanced on their behalf all reconcile against the quote. This documentation group covers charges, invoicing, master-to-house cost allocation for consolidated shipments, and on-behalf payments.
By task¶
Task |
When to use |
Article |
|---|---|---|
Record charges, invoice the customer, and bill vendors |
The shipment has confirmed charges and is ready to be invoiced or billed. |
|
Send a debit note for an extra charge after the sales order is confirmed |
A charge is added after confirmation and must be billed separately from the original invoice. |
|
Allocate master costs to house shipments |
A consolidated master shipment has costs that must be split across its house shipments. |
|
Track payments made or collected on behalf of a customer |
A cost such as duty, tax, or a fumigation fee must pass through without affecting gross profit. |
Tip
Quick checkpoint: before closing a shipment, gross profit should match the quote unless every difference is explained by a charge, an allocation, or an on-behalf item you can point to.
