Sea Freight

This section covers the four core sea freight workflows: FCL export, FCL import, LCL consolidation, and LCL deconsolidation. If you are new, use two questions to pick the right article:

  • Is the shipment a full container load (FCL) or less-than-container load grouped with other cargo (LCL)?

  • Is the operation export or import?

Workflow

When to use

Article

FCL Export

A single shipper books a full container; the forwarder books the carrier and tracks the container to vessel departure.

FCL Export

LCL Consolidation (Export)

The forwarder consolidates multiple house shipments into one master container.

LCL Export (Consolidation)

FCL Import

Receiving a full container at POD: D/O exchange, cargo pickup, and empty return.

FCL Import

LCL Deconsolidation (Import)

Receiving a master container, deconsolidating at CFS, and delivering each house shipment to its consignee.

LCL Import (Deconsolidation)

Tip

Choose the right article before you start: FCL manages containers directly on the shipment; LCL requires distinguishing master from house. Confusing FCL and LCL from the outset typically leads to incorrect documents, incorrect invoices, or inability to track CFS status.
