Port and Location Setup

What is Port?

Port is place to load/unload cargo on/off ships, planes, trucks. In freight forwarder business, there are 3 main location types:

Port (Seaport/Airport)
  • Seaport: Cat Lai Port, Port of Singapore…

  • Airport: Tan Son Nhat, Changi Airport…

  • ICD (Inland Container Depot): Dry port

Door (Warehouse/Regular address)
  • Customer warehouse

  • Factory

  • Distribution center

Terminal (Pier/Station)
  • Container terminal

  • Cargo terminal

How to Create Port

  1. Access Freight Forwarder > Configuration > Locations > Ports

  2. Or create from Contacts > Contacts, then tick Is a Port

Create Port/Location Form

Information to Fill

Port Name (Name):

Full name of port

Example: Port of Singapore, Cat Lai Port

Port Code (Code/Reference):

International standard abbreviation code (if any)

Example: * SGSIN - Singapore * VNSGN - Saigon Port * VNHPH - Hai Phong Port

Country:

Country where port is located

Detailed Address:

Specific address (if need to send trucks)

Is a Port:

Tick this checkbox so system knows this is a port

Tip

Use international standard port codes

Look up UN/LOCODE codes at: https://www.unece.org/cefact/codesfortrade/codes_index.html

Using standard codes helps: * Easier integration with customs systems * No confusion between ports with same name * Easy to look up transport information on international websites

Commonly Used Ports in Vietnam

To save time, you can pre-create following ports (if not yet existing):

Seaports:
  • Cat Lai Port (VNCL) - HCMC

  • Tan Cang Port (VNTC) - HCMC

  • Hai Phong Port (VNHPH) - Hai Phong

  • Da Nang Port (VNDA) - Da Nang

  • Quy Nhon Port (VNQN) - Binh Dinh

Airports:
  • Tan Son Nhat (SGN) - HCMC

  • Noi Bai (HAN) - Hanoi

  • Da Nang (DAD) - Da Nang
